The Data Architect will be responsible for the overall data architecture and data strategy for the company. This includes analyzing, planning and developing the architecture. The success of this role will be dependent upon the ability to comprehend the practical implications of technology and data, align that with business processes, and help develop processes and procedures that allow the company to fully exploit its data assets. This person will deal directly with users and act as the liaison between the data warehouse/business intelligence staff and the business owners. The candidate must be able to provide leadership for data related projects and activities, as well as influence and drive strategic data efforts with other departments.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages and oversees the data architecture for the data warehouse
- Proactively diagnoses, researches, monitors for and resolves Oracle and SQL database-related faults and performance problems
- Manages the ETL function
- Develops, maintains, monitors, and does performance tuning of the data warehouse databases
- Develops, maintains, monitors, and does performance tuning of OLAP cubes
- Develops, maintains, monitors, and does performance tuning of Business Objects universes
- Acts as a high-level technical data expert
- Performs feasibility/gap analysis on potential future data implementations
- Develops and maintains appropriate repositories of data model and dataflow diagrams relating to the data warehouse
- Develops and communicates project plans, work assignments, target dates and other aspects of assigned projects. Ensures that data projects follow prescribed development life cycle and meet quality standards
- Keeps current with database, data modeling and data warehousing trends and technological innovations in order to make appropriate development recommendations.
- Functions as a technical expert in the design, development, modification and debugging of data models, databases, etc.
- Advises technology architects on database subjects appropriate for supporting ongoing development efforts
- Develops ETL specifications, source to target mapping and other documentation required for ETL development. Ensures appropriate documentation is completed and stored in the repository database.
- Works with business users to optimize information usage
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
· Undergraduate degree with 5-10 years of experience in a data warehousing environment with at least 2 years of that as a Data Architect.
- 2+ years experience as a Data Architect
- 5+ years experience working with data warehouses
- In-depth knowledge of dimensional databases, dimensional modeling and data warehousing required.
- Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts, terminology, and architecture
- 3+ years experience designing, maintaining and implementing dimensional data models
- Project management experience
- Understanding of data analysis, modeling and ETL tools
- Ability to develop and translate business needs into data requirements
- Ability to learn quickly in a dynamic environment
- Keen attention to detail
- Solid multitasking, analytical, and problem solving skills
- Strong Oracle and/or SQL Server administration skills
- Strong query skills
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills
- Excellent documentation, organization, and presentation skills
- Bachelors degree in a related field
- Experience with end-user analysis
